In fact, PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz are considering returning to Pakistan from London after receiving serious political setbacks one after the other from Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan during the last two days.
So Maryam could have come in February…
Maryam Nawaz was already planning to return to Pakistan in mid-February, but after Imran Khan’s moves in Punjab dealt a serious blow to the PML-N, the London leadership is reconsidering its plans. Now apart from Maryam, the timing of Nawaz Sharif’s return is also being considered. According to the report of The News, in the case of the date of elections in Punjab, it is said that both can come to Pakistan in a hurry.
Imran gave blow to PML-N
According to media reports, the PML-N has paid a political price early last year for its decision to oust the Imran Khan government and come to power. At the same time, the PDM government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also not performing and issues like country’s deteriorating economic condition and price rise have put the No Party in trouble.
Fall in popularity of PML-N
A senior PMLN leader said, “We thought that our good governance and economic transformation would bring back the popularity of the PMLN, but this is happening mainly because of the increasing financial challenges and price rise.” According to a report in The News, party sources believe that the PML-N’s popularity has declined since the removal of the Imran Khan government, while the PTI’s popularity is on the rise. Nawaz Sharif and Maryam, both are currently in London.
