Nepal Election 2022 There Is A Stir In Nepal Regarding The General Elections Know Which Party Is Currently In Power

Nepal Election 2022: General elections are going to be held in the neighboring country Nepal on 20 November. The voting process will be completed in a single phase. Of the total 275 members of the Federal Parliament, 165 will be elected by direct voting while the remaining 110 will be elected by the proportional method. Similarly, out of total 550 members of the Provincial Assembly, 330 will be directly elected and 220 will be elected proportionally.

Currently Nepali Congress coalition government

Nepal currently consists of five parties in the coalition government led by the Nepali Congress. The parties included in the coalition government include Nepali Congress, Rashtriya Jan Morcha, Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajwadi Party. In the last general election, about 90 per cent votes went to these five parties while 10.37 per cent votes went to other parties. None of those parties alone could get three per cent votes, so all those parties were deprived of getting proportional representation seats. Five big parties got the benefit of this.

Sher Bahadur Deuba was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Nepal for the fifth time in July 2021 after KP Oli stepped down. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been active in politics for seven decades. He is a veteran politician of Nepali Congress. This is Deuba’s fifth term as Prime Minister. His first term was from September 1995 to March 1997.

10 different governments have been in power since 2008

Political stability has been a major challenge in Nepal since the end of the 239-year-old monarchy in 2008. Since then, 10 different governments have been in power in the country. There are three main parties of Nepal – Nepali Congress, Communist Unified Marxist-Leninist (UML) Party and Maoist Centre. These parties have led different coalitions in the past. However, due to power struggle and infighting, no one completed 5 years of tenure.

Who will compete this time?

This time in Nepal, the contest in the elections is being seen between the Nepali Congress Party and the UML Party. The Nepali Congress currently leads the four-party ruling coalition. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who leads the Nepali Congress party, has forged an alliance with the Maoist Center Party, a major group of former Maoist rebels. The UML party, led by 70-year-old KP Sharma Oli, is in a tenuous alliance with a royalist group.
