The US Department of Justice said on Wednesday (January 25) that the Chinese national (Ji Chaoqun) came to the US in 2013 to study electrical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Staying here, he joined the US Army. He was later caught collecting sensitive information for the Chinese government. He was entrusted with the task of providing information about the life history of people. His age is 31 years.

Chinese spy sentenced to 8 years in America
According to the National Security Division of the US Department of Justice, Ji Chaoqun was one of those people who were working in the US as engineers and scientists. When he was arrested in the year 2018, the Chinese government had turned away from the allegations. However, in September last year, Ji Chaoqun was convicted in the US of illegally acting as an agent of China’s Minister of State Security (MSS) and making false statements to the US military.

Joined the US Army with fake documents
Ji Chaokun completed his engineering studies in the US in the year 2015. A year later, in 2016, through a program, he took entry in the US Army Reserve. This is such a system in which foreign citizens can also be recruited in the US Army. American officials say that Ji Chaoqun gave false information in the application to join the program. He had written that he was not in contact with any foreign government for the last several years. He also had several meetings with the US law enforcement agent, although then his intentions were known.

Tried to steal American technology
