Many times even official users or handles also share videos or pictures with wrong context, due to which confusion and rumors are bound to arise among the people. One such video is being shared these days. This video is being shared with the claim that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had organized a traditional Pongal feast in his office.

Surprisingly, this video has also been shared by many media outlets with wrong information. Media outlets claimed that Prime Minister of United Kingdom Rishi Sunak hosted a traditional meal on the occasion of Pongal festival in London. A media outlet wrote in the caption “#WATCH: #UK #PM Rishi Sunak hosts traditional Pongal lunch in #London, his staff eat with their hands.”

However, when the video was widely shared, fact-checking website Alt News verified it and fact-checked the video. According to an Alt News report, this video is being shared with a wrong reference as Rishi Sunak’s office.

To fact-check the video, a frame was taken and a reverse image search revealed that the clip was uploaded on a page named Tamil Culture Waterloo Region. According to the caption of the post, the people seen in the video were Waterloo politicians, regional chair, city mayor, councillor, police chief and staff. This suggests that the video was shot in Canada and not the United Kingdom.

Additionally, a relevant keyword search on Twitter yielded a tweet by Waterloo MP Bardish Chaggar, who posted pictures of the event. Police Chief Mark Crowell also tweeted a picture of the Thai Pongal event at Waterloo. He can also be seen in the viral video. Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic also shared pictures of the event. Kitchener is a city in Waterloo Region.
